Located just a short drive from Amman, Madaba offers easy access to several important holy sites and religious landmarks. Your first stop will be St. George’s Church, a modest 19th-century Greek Orthodox church, home to one of Christianity's most remarkable relics. In 1884, during the construction of the church, workers uncovered the ruins of a Byzantine church, revealing an extraordinary discovery: the oldest known map of Palestine. This ancient mosaic, offering invaluable historical insights, has withstood centuries of destruction, fire, and neglect, making it an essential stop for history lovers. Next, you will head to Mount Nebo, the highest point in the ancient Kingdom of Moab. Revered in Abrahamic texts, Mount Nebo is believed to be the site where Moses died after viewing the Holy Land. According to tradition, Moses ascended from the plains of Moab to the top of Pisgah, which overlooks Jericho. As you explore this sacred site, you'll delve into the roots of religion and reflect on the profound history it holds. After a day of history and spirituality, you'll continue your journey to the Dead Sea for an overnight stay, where you can unwind and experience one of the world's most unique natural wonders.
